Saluda History

Saluda Railroad Ticket The Train

Find out about the efforts of some citizens to bring a tourist train to the quiet tracks of Saluda.

This curious item, from the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library of Duke University, was found among the American Memory collection of historical documents digitized by the Library of Congress. Printed circa 1915 by the Saluda Board of Trade, it lists a railroad schedule and appears to be an envelope of some kind. It is considered a significant example of the development of early advertising, and as such is included in the Advertising Ephemera Collection.

Old timers in Saluda will remember the days of "six trains each way daily."
