The Saluda Downtown Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization, stands as a testament to Cass’s vision for a vibrant and thriving community. Her role in founding this organization has been pivotal in promoting arts, cultural development, and economic growth in downtown Saluda.
Cass’s commitment to community well-being extends to the Saluda Living in Place (SLIP) initiative, which she helped establish. This vital organization focuses on assisting aging residents to live safely and comfortably in their own homes, providing essential services like home assessments for safety and accessibility, social and educational programs, and transportation to medical appointments.
Her efforts in historic preservation and her tenure as the first chairperson of the Historic Saluda Committee underscore her dedication to maintaining the town’s rich heritage. This commitment was further demonstrated during her four-year service on the Board of City Commissioners, where she played a key role in the renovation of the historic City Hall.
Fostering Healthy Lifestyles and Community Connection
Cass’s influence extends to promoting healthy living through the On Track Saluda program. Inspired by the principles of the Blue Zones, which focus on the habits of the world’s longest-living communities, this initiative encourages healthy eating, exercise, and social interaction.
Moreover, recognizing the power of collaboration, Cass initiated Saluda Connections. This monthly gathering of church and nonprofit representatives fosters a stronger sense of unity and shared purpose among various community organizations.
