The Purple Onion, nestled in the heart of historic Saluda, North Carolina, presents a unique blend of Mediterranean-inspired cuisine and live music in a setting that echoes the relaxed pace of the town. Since its inception in 1998 by Susan and Stoney Lamar, the restaurant has grown into a beloved local gathering spot. Under the guidance of Chambli Stuber and Emily Lamar since 2020, it continues to uphold the legacy of community, good food, and vibrant entertainment.

Renowned for its outdoor dining and live music on Thursday and Saturday nights, The Purple Onion offers an eclectic menu featuring pizzas, pastas, seafood, and a variety of vegetarian and meat dishes. Emphasizing the use of local ingredients, the restaurant proudly serves locally raised trout, organic produce, and antibiotic and hormone-free meats and poultry. To complement the culinary experience, they offer freshly roasted coffee and espresso, along with a carefully selected assortment of fine wines and beers, including biodynamic and organic options.

The Purple Onion’s commitment to live music is a core aspect of its charm. Showcasing a wide range of musical genres including jazz, blues, rock, and folk, the venue believes in the unifying power of music to bring the community together. The intimate setting, combined with a diverse lineup of talented musicians, creates an unforgettable atmosphere that goes beyond just dining.

Their dedication to quality extends to their ingredients, sourced from a network of local farmers and purveyors who share a commitment to quality. This approach not only supports the local economy but also ensures that guests enjoy the freshest, most flavorful dishes.

The Purple Onion is more than just a restaurant; it’s a vibrant part of the Saluda community, inviting both locals and visitors to indulge in a memorable dining experience.
